A extended cruise through Australia has been cancelled days after the death of an older woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a isolated tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The ship left without her and went back later that day after the crew became aware the passenger was not present.

An extensive hunt located her remains the subsequent day.

Authorities are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the shipping company announced that passengers and staff on the ship were notified that the remainder of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

In a statement, he added that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its return.

Chronology of Events

The liner originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the moment of the senior passenger's passing. The remote island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Passengers on the ship - who typically pay tens of thousands of currency to take part in the expedition - were ferried there for a day trip with the possibility of hiking or snorkelling.

Family Reaction

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my mum".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mum as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a walking group.

"From the little information we have been informed, it looks that there was a lapse of attention and basic judgment," she said.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have saved Mother's being".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mum became unwell on the uphill trek," she explained.

"They requested her to return, without accompaniment. Then the ship departed, seemingly without doing a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or not long after, mother died, without company."

Organization Response

Via official communication, the CEO confirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with officials to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its total backing to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty guests with 46 crew, according to official details. It was specifically designed to enter remote regions of the nation's coast and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to transport passengers on land visits.

Incidents such as this are infrequent, and passenger vessels have protocols to document which individuals are getting on or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard simply isn't an option," an authority commented.

Vessel operators consider these procedures with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such events from happening," the specialist continued.

"This is presumably a surprising - and tragic - isolated incident."
