Two Arrests Following Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident
Two more people are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to law enforcement.
A man, 24, was taken into custody in Lambeth on suspicion of robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals are still being held, the force said.
These detentions follow a probe into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the attack, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their luggage upon exiting a car park lift.
A three-year-old girl was among the those hurt during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.
Police detained a 31-year-old man for suspected robbery and assault close to the scene. He has since been released pending further inquiries while inquiries continue.
Authorities were called at about 08:10 GMT following reports of several people injured by a noxious substance believed to be pepper spray.
The assault - an event that authorities stated was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - resulted in delays to rail services and the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a short time.
